Best of

Luke asked me tonight if I was the best mom in the world, and I said "I hope so." Luke said, "I'm sorry but I know someone better, it's Grannie." I might have to agree.

Grannie the Best Mom

You know those 100 pictures I took at my parents house? One picture I wish I had gotten was a picture of Jace doing an armpit fart. (I'm sorry, but that's what it is called.) Luke asked me tonight how Jace did that and he proceeded to try. I think Joe should take a video of Jace doing it and put it on his blog!

Best Armpit Noise Maker

For Father's Day the boys got Aaron Wii Sports Resort. Actually we preordered it for him. The game came out on Sunday and it is a pretty big hit at our house. I do not usually play video games, but when all three guys in the house are wanting me to play with them, I couldn't say no. I have to say it is pretty fun for a video game.

Best Video Game

If you live in the Texas you have heard of Blue Bell Ice Cream. It is the best tasting ice cream I have ever had. Here is their latest creation- Nutty Chocolate, rich chocolate ice cream with milk chocolate coated pecans, dark chocolate coated peanuts, white chocolate coated almonds and roasted walnuts. Somehow I ended up on Blue Bell's email list and they sent me an email about this new flavor. It almost made me drop everything and go to the store to find this ice cream. I didn't but next time I am at the store I am going to look for it.

Easy & Yummy Dessert

On Sunday after church we went to Red Lobster. We enjoyed the salad, biscuits, and the seafood. But they also tempted me with this, Warm Chocolate Chip Lava Cookie. It looks so yummy. I just could not pull the trigger and order one, though.
I could not get that dessert out of my mind. The next day I realized I had this in my pantry:
And this in my freezer:
I baked the cookies in a muffin pan during dinner and for our dessert we had our own Warm Chocolate Lava Dessert.
It was delicious with the melted chocolate inside. YUM!

Caleb's Trying Times

Caleb has had an eventful few days. On Monday he got a haircut. We kind of sprung it on him. We took him to the mall and let him get his favorite cookie, a snickerdoodle, then we said let's take you to get a haircut. The boy loves his hair long, but it needed to be trimmed. He had a frown on his face the entire time his hair was being cut.

Then his ear started hurting him really bad. It would only hurt when he would touch the outside of his ear and when he would chew. Those symptom match up with swimmer's ear. On Tuesday I took him to the doctor and he does have swimmer's ear and has to stay out of the pool for 4 to 6 days. Caleb had to sit with me and watch Luke's class and his class during swimming lessons. What are we going to do at home for the rest of the week if we can't swim? It is just too hot to spend long stretches of time outside. Maybe Caleb can study his multiplication tables? Yes, I think he will go for that. Right??

My Dad

How to describe my Dad?

He is....
a super joke teller
an awesome carpenter
a great chef
a grill master
a talented singer and musician
an anointed preacher
a man of vision
positive
and fun to be around.

He....
knows how to have a Superbowl Party
loves good books
likes to quote lines from his favorite movies (You can't handle the truth!)
needs his COFFEE
has a great smile
loves his wife and still sneaks a kiss from her
plays Sleigh Ride on the piano like no one else
likes to be silly (Bacon, bacon, bacon.)
and is always there for his children and grandchildren.

I....
look up to him
know I had one of the best childhoods a kid could have
wonder how he remembers all of those jokes
will always be his buddy
wish I had gotten his math genes
love to spend time with him
wish I was with him for his birthday
and thank God for him.

Happy Birthday Dad! I love you!
(I know this post is about my Dad, but is it just me or does Aaron look like he is wondering what he got himself into too.)

Julie

Ecclesiastes 3
A Time for Everything

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

My sister Julie has been going through a terrible ordeal. If you are reading this could you say a prayer for her? Pray for God's favor and God's provision in her life.

Julie:

Joy. If you know Julie you know that she is full of joy. She loves life and her girls and she is fun to be around. It is a treat to hear Julie do some of her impressions. She can do impressions spot on. My boys love to be around Aunt Julie. I remember one day by the pool at Grannie's house the kids played baseball with a beach ball and they stood at the diving board hitting the ball. Julie over and over again would field the ball and encourage the kids. They loved it. I remember Julie and the kids laughing and the fun they were having.

Ultimate. The ultimate what? She is the ultimate giver. She is the ultimate daughter. She is the ultimate boss. She is the ultimate big sister. She is the ultimate make-up advisor. Let me explain. At our house we were not allowed to wear makeup until we turned 13. When my 13 birthday came around, I couldn't wait to wear makeup. For my birthday Julie took me to Kmart and advised me on what colors to wear and what kind of makeup I needed. (After all she was 17- she knew everything!) She purchased all the makeup my 13 year old self needed as my birthday present. I also remember her advising me on some makeup I didn't need, like a heavy concealer. Then when I got married at 19 (I was a baby) I got my hair done at the salon but not my makeup. Julie did my makeup for me on that day. So yes, she is the ultimate makeup advisor.

Loved. Julie please know that during this time you are loved. You are loved by your family, just the way you are. You are loved by God. Always. Forever. His love never ends.

The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Deuteronomy 31:8

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38, 39

Intelligent. My sister is extremely intelligent. In high school she would study every night and she got excellent grades. She aced her high school Speech class. In fact her speeches were so good, that the speech teacher videoed her speeches so he could show them to other classes on how to give a good speech. Julie earned her college degree and became a manager at a huge company by the time she was 25 or 26. She has excelled at every job she has had. I have always been impressed by Julie's intelligence.

Enjoyable. Julie is enjoyable to be around. I love this quote from the movie UP, "It might sound boring," Russell admits. "But I kinda think it's the boring stuff I remember the most." And that is so true. I always have fun with Julie doing the boring or everyday things. At our house growing up our parents had us clear the table and do the dishes each night. Usually I would clear and Julie would wash the dishes and I would help out and dry. During those times Julie would talk to me about her classes and her friends and even sometimes boys. I have fond memories doing the dishes with Julie. Another activity which some might not consider the funnest thing to do is thrift store shopping. I always have a good time with Julie, driving around and trying to find a treasure. Whatever I am doing with Julie it is enjoyable just to be with her.

So Julie, I believe this is just a season of your life. I am praying that your season will change and that soon you will have a time to heal and mend, a time to laugh and dance, and a time for love and peace.

Our 4th

Here is how we celebrated America's birthday at the Butterfly house.

(Our $4 find from a garage sale. America painted on canvas. It is now hanging in the hallway. Purchased on a Friday garage sale on July 3rd. The whole family went out to shop. Because that is what we do for fun.)

Back to July 4th, we decorated.
We put on our flag shirts. Even Lukey's kitties needed something to wear.

Then Lukey helped me make a flag cake. This was so easy and so good. I made a white cake from a mix, covered it with cool whip and then added blueberries and strawberries.

We stayed home all day, Aaron grilled, we swam in the pool, and then we watched NASCAR Saturday night. Because what is more American than NASCAR? And that my friends was our 4th.

Five for Friday

1. I told Caleb that he was growing up and becoming a man. He corrected me and said that he is not a man but a man-in-training. I told him I would call him M.I.T. Kind of daunting to think of raising two men-in-training.

2. Aaron has become a super bargain hunter. The last three Saturdays he has gone out to garage sales and two or three times a week he stops by Goodwill on his way home from school. He is hunting for anything for us and items to sell on ebay. Last week he purchased from Goodwill an Electronic Battleship game for $1.99. At ToysRUs they sell the same game for $39.99. Caleb has wanted this game for a while.

3. The weather in Beaumont has been HOT! We had a couple of days in June where the temperature reached 100. Last year we had no 100 degree days. What does this mean for the weather in July and August?

4. Have you seen the movie UP? I loved this movie. I have seen it twice and both times cried in a couple different parts of the movie. It explores so many different facets of life: helping others, getting old, following your dreams, true love, absentee fathers, and the whole idea of being disappointed in your life and feeling that you missed out. I think this is my favorite movie!

5. At church on Sunday we sang this song. One of the best songs ever! The chorus is my prayer.

The Potter's Hand by: Darlene Zschech

Beautiful Lord, Wonderful Saviour

I know for sure, all of my days are held in your hands,

crafted into your perfect plan

You gently call me into your presence guiding me by Your Holy Spirit

Teach me dear Lord to live all of my life through Your eyes

I'm captured by Your holy calling

Set me apart, I know you're drawing me to yourself

Lead me Lord I pray

Chorus:

Take me, Mold me, use me, fill me

I give my life to the Potter's hand

Call me, guide me, lead me, walk beside me

I give my life to the Potter's hand

You gently call me into your presence guiding me by your Holy Spirit

Teach me dear Lord to live all of my life through your eyes

I'm captured by your Holy calling set me apart,

I know your drawing me to yourself

lead me Lord I pray
